The 21st edition of the Karachi United School Championship had five categories.
1) Senior Boys Karachi
2) Senior Boys Lahore
3) Senior Girls
4) Senior Boys
5) Junior Girls

Senior Boys Lahore

Trophy

The trophy shoot was done at the Model Town Football Academy Ground (MTFA) where all the matches were held.

Seeding

As this was the first year where the KUSC expanded into Lahore, seedings were not done. However, the top 4 teams from this year would go on to become the top seeds for the next edition.

Groups

The groups were as follows –

Group A – Kaizen High, Lahore Grammar School Paragpn, The City School, Lahore Garrison Education System (LGES) (APS Garrison)
Group B – TNS Beaconhouse, Lahore Grammar School Defense P5, SICAS, Learning Alliance International

Group Stages

The group stage matches were held at Model Town Football Academy Ground (MTFA).

Group A

APS Garrison and LGS Paragon qualified from the group, with the match between both these teams a fiery encounter. APS lead 2-0 before being pulled level by LGS. However, a late goal saw APS win who went on to top the group. The City School and Kaizen High offered some resistance before being overpowered by the top 2 qualifying teams.

Group B

LGS Defense P5 secured the top spot whereas the battle for second was an interesting match up. Heading into the final matchday, Learning Alliance International were on 1 point with 1 draw and a loss and a goal difference of -4. TNS Beaconhouse were on 4 points with 1 win and a draw with goal difference of +1. Learning Alliance International won their must win match against SICAS by a score line of 7-1 bringing them level with TNS on 4 points albeit with a better goal difference of +3. TNS needed to avoid defeat in the final match of the group against LGS Phase 5. However, Musa Cheema, the dead ball specialist scored in the 2nd half of injury time to secure a 1-0 victory and rendering TNS to finish below Learning Alliance International with a goal difference of 0.

Knockouts

Following the intense group stage battles, the knockout round matchups were finalized with A1 facing off against B2 and B1 against A2, and so on. The semi final matches were as follows –

Semifinals

APS Garrison 3 – 1 Learning Alliance International

During the 1st half, APS had their keeper sent off for handling the ball intentionally outside the box. Despite have the man advantage, Learning Alliance International were unable to capitalize as the score remained goalless. The match went into extra time where APS scored twice in the 1st half. Learning Alliance managed to pull one back from the penalty spot early in the 2nd half, before APS scored again to put the game to bed.

Lahore Grammar School Defense P5 1 (4) – 1 (5) Lahore Grammar School Paragon

An evenly fought match where both teams had chances. With the scores level at 1-1, the match went into extra time. No team could break the deadlock as the match went on to the penalty shootout. In what was one of the longest penalty shootouts, after 8 rounds of penalties, LGS Paragon came out on top to win the shootout.

3rd Place Playoff

Learning Alliance International 0 – 3 Lahore Grammar School Defense P5

Playing for honor in this match, LGS Defense P5 won convincingly against Learning Alliance to clinch 3rd place.

Final

APS Garrison 1 – 2 Lahore Grammar School Paragon

Background

The final of the KUSC Lahore edition was between two heavyweights, APS Garrison and LGS Paragon. Both teams met in the opening fixture of the tournament with APS Garrison coming out on top with a 3-2 win. Both teams wanted to face each other in the final as pride was also at stake. LGS were looking to avenge their loss from the opening fixture whereas APS were looking to get a double over LGS.

First Half

APS Garrison were without their first-choice keeper after being sent off in the semi final. A fumble by the second choice keeper let Moeiz Shah’s shot in the net for LGS Paragon to open the scoring. In the 27th minute, APS won a corner from which Omair headed home to bring the scores level.

Second Half

A very back and forth match, Shahwar Khan powered a shot pass the keeper to give LGS the lead. APS were then unable to respond back as the match came to an end.

Moiez Shah was the named MVP after his excellent performance throughout the tournament winning 4 out of 5 Player of the Match awards.
